The Community Emergency Response
Team (CERT) Program educates people about
disaster preparedness for hazards that may
impact their area and trains them in basic
disaster response skills, such as fire safety,
light search and rescue, team organization, and
disaster medical operations. Using the training
learned in the classroom and during exercises,
CERT members can assist others in their
neighborhood or workplace following an event
when professional responders are not immediately
available to help. CERT members also are
encouraged to support emergency response
agencies by taking a more active role in
emergency preparedness projects in their
community. The Payson Fire
Department is our local sponsor for the CERT
program.
|
| The
CERT Basic Course is offered periodically in
Payson. Classes are taught using the
standard CERT curriculum from FEMA. Most
classes are held in the training room at the Main
Street Fire Station. The training is
typically an 8-week course, meeting one night per
week. Class participants are provided with
the training materials at no charge. For
class schedule information, please contact the
training coordinator at the email address listed
below. |
|
A new CERT class is starting January 21, 2012. This will be a 3-Saturday class. The class will be on January 21, February 4, and February 11, 2012, from 8 AM to 4 PM. It will be held at the Senior Circle building at 215 North Hwy 87 in Payson. (East Side of Highway 87, north of Bashas shopping center) This is the full 20-hour FEMA training curriculum Please contact the training coordinator noted below for more information on upcoming classes. As usual, there is no charge for the CERT Class. |
|
Radio Training: Get a HAM Radio license and increase your capabilities as an emergency responder.
|
| Volunteers
who complete the CERT Basic Course may join our
team to help the community in emergencies, or as
needed to supplement the capabilities of the
professional responders in the
community. It is expected that members
will take care of themselves and their families,
then are given an opportunity to assist the rest
of the community in times of need. |
| An
abbreviated
course is available for special groups to
provide basic family preparedness
information. This is not the FEMA curriculum
and does not result in CERT training
accreditation. Please contact the training
coordinator at the email listed below, to
arrange a class for your organization. Other training is also offered occasionally to CERT Team members on other related topics, such as emergency traffic control, two-way radio usage, and other topics according to need and interest. |
